Quaxar Axim 160mm Lightweight Floating Disk Rotors are by far one of the lightest rotors you can find in the market, weighing at only 69-72 grams (slight variation after checking).
You can lose weight on a critical rotating part of the bike; around the wheel to improve your hill climbing efficiency by reducing your pedal effort and pimp your ride at the same time.
Quaxar Axim's rotor outer disk consists of a high grade 410 Stainless steel braking surface riveted to a CNC aluminium Aerospace grade 7075-T6 heat treated alloy central carrier. Comes complete with 6 decent BLACK torx bolts.
- Excellent heat dissipation in both wet and dry conditions, thus, minimal warpage during fast descend downhills.
- High friction co-efficient for maximum stopping power.
- The Aluminum central carrier is laterally very stiff. Bike professionals has been racing on these and find they are the best lightweight rotors we've tested for remaining straight and true.
- A two piece rotor - a steel outer section which is riveted to a aluminium inner (spider), which bolts to the hub. The rivets allow float and movement between the two, which stops the rotor from warping under extreme heat due to different expansion rates of the metals.
If you are currently running standard 160mm rotors with 6 bolt holes this will work in your braking system. It's a straight swap.
WHAT IS A FLOATING ROTOR & WHY YOU SHOULD USE IT.
A fixed brake disc is a one piece brake disc. That is, its brake pad contact face and wheel mounting face are all part of the same piece of metal. They are relatively cheap to produce and they perform perfectly well within certain parameters, but if they are subjected to serious heat then they are unable to dilate or expand because they are not floating.
Floating brake discs rotors are constructed in two parts. An aluminium centre part which is fixed to the bike wheel and a stainless rotor part which the brake pads push on.
When the rotor is subjected to serious heat it expands. By allowing it to float separately from the mounting face it is free to expand and shrink again at will without being constrained by its mounting. When this expansion takes place is does so in all directions at once and it will not be constrained. If you prevent this from happening in one direction (by fixing it on its mounting face) it has no choice but to warp, so floating discs rotors are made in two parts to allow the discs to expand and prevent them from warping. This is mainly a high performance type brake disc.
Bikes of more moderate performance can use fixed brake discs perfectly happily, but not if you are going to be heating up your disks by hard braking downhill. If you are reading this post, you are unlikely the moderate rider.
