The world’s biggest bike maker is also making a play for an increased share of the saddle market, unveiling the new Contact SLR ($225) and Contact SL ($110). Each model comes in three shapes, forward, neutral and upright, which is reference to how a rider sits on their bike (aka their pelvic contact position). To determine this Giant created a saddle fitting tool that takes a print of where a rider’s weight is placed while pedaling, thus determining which saddle is the correct choice.
The new saddle also employs an interesting concept dubbed particle flow technology, which is claimed to improve load distribution and reduce pressure points by allowing these free-flowing particles to conform to a rider’s body. All the new saddles also have pressure relief channels and abrasion resistant panels. The Contact SLR models have composite rails and a claimed weight of 180 grams; the Contact SL models are 210 grams.
