This is where carbon comes in. As a baseline we ran our test bikes and personal bikes with top-shelf aluminum wheels—from the French brand if you’re interested. Initially we all noticed that the carbon wheels feel a hair lighter and seem to roll quicker as you’re powering up the bike. There’s also an almost intangible improvement in comfort—the dampening properties of carbon—that’s hard to isolate, but seems universal. Meaning the sidewalls of the tires stand more vertically—better edging again, but also less exposure to sharp rocks.
